In an effort aimed at addressing youth unemployment in the country, government has released 292 million shillings to benefit the youth in Rukungiri district under the youth Livelihood program-YLP.
According to Posius Agaba, the acting Rukungiri district community development officer, the district had requested a sum of 344 million shillings to benefit 34 registered groups in the district but 28 groups were selected.
He says field evidence indicates that majority of the groups that got funding have put the money to good use and have as a result acquired new skills and are engaged in various income generating activities.
This puts the district at a recovery rate of 72% of 1.2 billion shillings among 142 groups ever since the program kicked off in 2014.
Martin Natukunda, Kitanda grain millers youth project chairperson found in Buyanja sub-county after receiving 12.5 million shillings told our reporter that they are ready to be a model group in the district.
