Government has been challenged to include Ugandan entertainment industry in the national budget and start allocating funds to it, in order to fill the gap between government and those in the industry.
Mr Maurice Ssengoba a.k.a Moris Pro of Rock Studio, a music producer in Kijungu, Kakoba division, Mbarara municipality in western Uganda, many musicians, comedians, and other entertainers who joined the political field and succeeded have influenced the rest, government should get a way of utilizing and connecting with this large industry by including it in the national budget or funding their associations because many are not benefiting from their jobs. He further added that tax figures will increase if entertainment is taken as a crucial tourist attraction in Uganda.
Following an increase in parliament on the number of entertainers who mature to politicians, including Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine who currently represents Kyadondo East constituency, comedian Kato Lubwama of Lubaga South, and others, many entertainers have expressed interest to contest on different posts and some have participated in political related context like activism.
According to Maurice, many politicians currently have personal interests and they are aimed at accumulating their wealth, prompting those who can; to aspire for the same posts, negatively aimed at getting high salaries.
However, Maurice who has been a producer for over 10 years appreciates that the industry hasn’t collapsed despite government neglect, before challenging fellow entertainers to form associations, save for the future, be creative and see how to benefit from government programs.
