Government Asked to Borrow for Outstanding Court Awards
MPS on the legal and parliamentary Affairs committee have asked government to borrow funds clearing the outstanding court awards.
The committee while meeting a team of the officials from the ministry of Justice and constitutional Affairs led by the Justice minister and constitutional Affairs Kahinda Otafire learnt that the ministry has no clear strategy to clear the outstanding court awards that stand at a tune of 676 billion shillings after the ministry indicated that it needs 9 billion each financial year to clear the bill.
The member of Parliament for west Budama North Jacob Oboth Oboth noted that government requires 74 years to clear the 676 billion shillings at a rate of 9 billion payment per year.
This prompted oboth to recommend for government to seek a loan and clear the huge figure of court awards which is attracting interest and costly to the government.
In the meeting chaired by the Gomba west county mp Robinnah Rwakojo, the minister of justice and constitutional Affairs kahinda Otafire pleaded to parliament to devise means of helping government to punish errant government officers whose indiscipline cause government pay court awards.
