Government advises all traders seeking payment from the S. Sudan Gov’t to remain patient
Gov’t has urged all traders seeking payment from the South Sudan Government to remain patient until the current political disagreements in S. Sudan are ironed out.
Recently, a group of Ugandan traders , including 9 local companies issued a 16 day ultimatum to the Gov’t of South Sudan demanding for 123 billion Shillings accumulated from hundreds of tons of grain supplied to the South Sudan government.
They threatened to suspend exporting to Sudan if the payment is not cleared.
James Mutende, the State minister for Trade says the verification of the claims made by the traders was disrupted by the current political instability and that once calm returns, the Ugandan Government will take up the matter. He however says the trade ministry does not have any official ultimatum issued.
Meanwhile, Government says it is facilitating better trade between Uganda & South Sudan by putting in place infrastructure including boarder markets.
