Frank Lampard: New Chelsea contract is virtually a done deal
Lampard is set to continue his succesful career at Chelsea .
Frank Lampard confirmed he is set to celebrate Chelsea’s Europa League success with a new one-year contract.
The future of the club’s all-time record goalscorer has been subject to debate all season with Lampard, 34, out of contract in the summer and Chelsea at times appearing unwilling to discuss an extension.
However, speaking in the wake of last night’s 2-1 win over Benfica, the midfielder dropped a broad hint that he may be staying at Stamford Bridge after all.
Asked whether he will extend his Blues career into an 11th season, he said: ‘I really hope so.
‘We’re getting there, we haven’t completely sat down on it but the club have been brilliant, it looks good.’
Lampard had almost bagged the winner, hitting the crossbar moments before defender Branislav Ivanovic headed Chelsea’s injury-time winner.
He added: ‘I was just waiting for it to dip a little bit but it doesn’t matter, we’re a group. No one deserves it more than Ivanovic, he’s been fantastic.’
