Former IGP, Gen. Kale Kayihura charged and remanded by the Makindye General Court Martial; his bail to be considered next week
Incarcerated former Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura has today appeared before a military court in Kampala.
After nearly two and a half months in detention, Gen Kayihura appeared before the General Court Martial in Makindye Military barracks on charges of failing to protect war materials and aiding in the arrests, kidnap and repatriation of Rwandan exiles including Lt. Joel Mutabazi the former bodyguard to Rwandan President.
Kayihura was represented by a team of seven lawyers from Kampala Associated Advocates who included former Solicitor General Peter Kabatsi, Dr Elly Karuhanga, Dr Karu Karumiya, Joseph Matsiko, Edson Karuhanga, Jet Tumwebaze and Capt Charles Sekenta.
However Kayihura has denied all the three charges and has been remanded until September 4.
