FDC Mbarara rally called off
The forum for democratic change(FDC) Party has called off the planned rally at Booma grounds in Mbarara town today, after police refused to permit its occurance.
The party yesterday was scheduled to hold prayers in Rukungiri town, to remember their supporters who died in the party activities, but police blocked the activities citing that they were not aware of the organizers to work with for peace and harmony during the prayers.
As a result, Former party president and four time presidential candidate, Rtd.Col.Dr.Kiiza Besigye, current party president, Patrick Amuriat Oboi were locked up in Besigye’s home, while others were arrested and transfered to Kabale and Mbarara.
According to Stanley Katembeya, the FDC Mbarara district chairman, they spent the whole of yesterday engaging police to allow them have the rally today, but in vain.
When contacted, the Rwizi region police spokesperson, Samson Kasasira confirmed the matter, but didn’t reveal the reason for the refusal.
