Fake Gangnam Style star ‘Psy’ lives it up in Cannes with stars
The fake Psy caused a splash at Cannes
Bucking Gangnam Style star Psy was treated to the full works during his appearance in Cannes – the only problem for organisers is that it wasn’t actually him.
A man posing as the South Korean YouTube sensation partied with the stars, was lavished with bubbly and danced on French TV as fellow stars at the film festival scrambled to hang out with him.
The dancing imposter’s cover was only blown when the real Psy popped up online and revealed he was actually thousands of miles away in Singapore – and nowhere near the Cote d’Azur after all.
His mystery lookalike spent two days lapping up the glory at the film world’s most ritzy event and posed with stars Adrien Brody and Bond girl Naomie Harris, who were so excited about meeting him they tweeted out pics.
The would-be star swanned about Carlton Hotel, VIP Room and Martinez Beach and was even lavished with jewellery in the hope the brands would get noticed.
One shocked party organiser was in disbelief after letting the man come into their exclusive party, telling the New York Post: ‘I’m afraid I’m not entirely sure what you mean. It was the real Psy.’
Among the many invites, he was welcomed to the exclusive Chopard party and even taught a radio host on France’s Radio Prestige how to do the iconic dance.
‘He was playing it up full scale,’ revealed a source. ‘He had three security guards with him at all times, in suits and earpieces. He was scamming free drinks and bottle service… three bottles of Cristal Rosé with lunch.’
Naomie Harris fell for fake Psy
It wasn’t until the real star tweeted that the man’s convincing week of luxury came to an end.
The real Psy, 35, piped up: ‘Seems like there’s another ME at cannes . . . say Hi to him.’
Dumbfounded organisers then conceded they’d been had.
An email from one said: ‘We’ve been duped. I had a conversation with his label… it [wasn’t] him, just a look-alike.’
