Entebbe Mongers Relegated
Entebbe Mongers rugby have suffered an unfortunate boardroom decision as the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has announced their relegation from the national premier super 8 league.
“Entebbe Mongers will be relegated to the championships starting this very upcoming season because they failed to honor two play off fixtures against Makerere University Impis”, URU’s president, Andrew Owori, says.
The Mongers, who finished 6th by the close of the league’s regular season was scheduled to play Makerere Impis on the 1st March with a subsequent return leg a week later. But they missed out the two matches without any reason forwarded.
Mongers’ chairman, Kigongo Ssebalamu is eager to stage a spirited fight back towards the decision. “First of all, we have not recieved the communication, but if it finally comes, we shall lodge an official fight back through our lawyers”, Kigongo says.
Since Owori took over the mantle of the Rugby union in May 2013, he clearly outlined his plans to run the premiership with a reduced log of teams -6 (with a reduction from 8), Championship (6 teams), 4 nationwide leagues (in the Northern, Eastern, Central and the West), the women’s league, the schools’ and the University leagues.
Mongers were promoted to the top flight season in 2008
