EASFCOM Director Visits Jinja District Leadership
The Eastern Africa Standby Forces Coordinating Mechanism Director Maj Gen (Rtd) Cyrille Ndayirukiye today paid a courtesy call on the Jinja Resident District Commissioner Mr Gulume Richard at his offices. The meeting was also attended by District Chairman Gume Fredrick Ngobi, the Chief Administrative Officer BegumyaEliab, Jinja Town Clerk David Kyesanku and District Police Commander SP Kateeba.
The purpose of the visit was to formally communicate to the district leadership about the EASF Field Training Exercise codenamed Mashariki Salam 13, already underway in Jinja and Buikwe districts.
The Director appluaded the district leadership for hosting the exercise, the hospitality and support the local community has so far shown to the participants.“ EASF has 10 member states who have been participating for two weeks.By the end of the exercise the participants will have made many friends and Jinja their second home,” remarked Gen Ndayirukiye.
Accompanying the Director to the meeting were the EASF Head of Liason Brig (Rtd) Sheikh Ahmed Ali Mohammed, the Chief of Staff of the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre Brig Matthew Gureme who explained the background of EASF, details and objectives of the exercise and, the Jinja Cantonment Commander Brig Samuel Kawagga.
The leadership formally welcomed the EASF to the District and observed that Jinja has benefited a lot from hosting the exercise by gaining revenue in form of hotel accommodation, supplying the troops with food and other essential commodities. They also observed that it has helped to market Jinja to the EASF member states and the rest of the world.
The EASF and the District leadership finally agreed to a football match between EASF leaders and the Jinja district leaders at Kakindu stadium on Friday 24 May at 4pm.
