Drug Shortage Hits Mbale Regional Referral Hospital
A severe drug stock out has hit Mbale Regional Referral Hospital. Information obtained from the hospital, shows that essential drugs run out of stock last month after the last delivery was made in May. Dr. Stephen Obbo, the Director Mbale Regional Referral Hospital confirms the stockouts saying they currently lack anti malaria drugs, anti biotics, fluids and other medical supplies likes gloves. He blames the crisis on the huge number of patients the hospital attends to.
Mbale Regional Referral hospital serves patients from 16 districts with a population of over four million people. He explains that they receive 60,000 patients in the in-patient department and another 120,000 in the outpatient department annually.
