Court Grants Bail to 2 Finance Ministry officials Jailed On Corruption Charges
Two jailed employees of Ministry of Finance ,who had been arrested for taking bribes, have been granted a UGX 8 million cash bail by the Anti-corruption Court.
Ogol John Charles a principle finance officer together with Turyamuhika Geoffrey a senior economist who were remanded to Luzira prison on 7th this month on charges of corruption, after denying the bribery allegation, appeared before Presiding Chief Magistrate Agnes Alum who also ordered each of them to deposit their passports with court before leaving custody and keep away from the Ministry of Finance until further orders of the court.
Prosecution alleges that the two on 30th/January/2017 at Ministry of finance headquarters in Kampala took advantage of their positions to solicit for a bribe of US dollars 300,000 and accepted US dollars 16,600 each, from a one Sserunjogi Hassan to help expedite documentation concerning the financing and construction of a power substation and transmission line for the Guagzhou Dongsongh Energy Group(U)LTD Project at Tororo.
They duo will report back to court on 22nd May, 2017 to be told Prosecution’s position on the investigations.
