Counting of Police Officers In Rwizi region Kicks off today With Kiruhura, Ibanda
Police professional standards unit is today set to kick off the headcount in Rwizi region.
The exercise which started with units divisions and regions within Kampala commenced on Monday 18th June 2018 comes as a recent directive by the Inspector General of Police Okoth Martin Ochola.
The manpower audit will assist the force to come out with a detailed report containing several powerful recommendations based on facts and not just anecdotal data
Police administrative planners will be able to know the actual numbers of serving officers as a way of professionalizing the force, expose human resource gaps, provide practical recommendations and transforming of the police service.
Rwizi region takes up the districts of Kiruhura, Ibanda, Mbarara, Isingiro and Ntungamo.
According to Rwizi region police spokesperson, Samson Kasasira, the exercise will begin in Kiruhura today, then Ibanda, Isingiro, Ntungamo and lastly Mbarara district.
Kasasira adds that by this audit, all officers are obliged to have Police numbers, current passport photos, and bank account.
Other are; national identity card, date of joining the force, date of current posting, and date of the recent rank elevation.
It is estimated tat Uganda has 45000 police officers, but the new regime wants to establish the facts. The headcount comes at a time the country is grappling with a spate of insecurity, most of which are gun-related.
