Counterfeit agricultural tools worth Shs. 700 millons seized
The Uganda National Bureau of Standard (UNBS) has seized fake agricultural inputs worth Shs700 million in Industrial Area.
UNBS undertook an inspection at Panyahululu CO.LTD during which samples of hoes (B. Cock brand), Machetes (jewel brand) and shovels were obtained for laboratory analysis to determine compliance to the relevant standards.
Upon receipt of the laboratory test results, it was established that the samples of items did not meet the requirements of the relevant standard.
“It is our obligation to protect the health and safety of the public against harmful imported and locally made products. Yesterday a total of 7256 cartons of hoes ( B.Cock Brand ), 180 cartons of pangas and 81 cartons of machetes of Jewel Brand all imported from China were confined at the premises of the importer on Mulwana Road,” said Barbara Kamusiime, the UNBS Public Relations Officer.
Kamusiime also noted that no one is allowed to sale or distribute those products. They therefore inform the public to desist from buying the aforementioned brands of agricultural inputs supplied by Panyahululu Co. ltd.
Legal action will be taken against the importer for selling substandard products.
