Consitututional Amendments Bill passed
Parliament yesterday passed the contentious Constitutional Amendment Bill 2015 that seeks adjustments in a few articles of the 1995 Constitution.
The sitting chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah finally realized the required quorum to handle the Bill which is commonly referred to as the Electoral Reforms Bill, after weeks of failure that delayed the process.
The Bill was introduced on the floor of Parliament by the minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafire on 30thApril just two months before the Electoral Commission issued the electoral roadmap of the coming 2016 general elections.
The Bill that majorly looked at changes in the electoral process and slightly the Judiciary was on the same day of its introduction to the house referred by the Speaker to the committee of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs for scrutiny.
