Chelsea's title and Champions League odds cut on news of Jose Mourinho's return
Jose Mourinho: Won two Premier League titles during first spell at Chelsea
Chelsea’s Premier League title odds have been cut to 9/4 with Sky Bet after confirmation of Jose Mourinho’s return.
The online bookmaker opened betting on next season’s title back in April, when the Blues were initially considered 5/1 shots.
Their price was cut gradually as it emerged that Mourinho, who led them to back-to-back titles in his previous reign, was set to return to the helm.
Mourinho’s other primary objective will be to land the Champions League, and Sky Bet go 9/2 for him to secure Europe’s biggest club competition in the next two seasons, while the Blues are 10/1 to win it this coming season.
Having established one of football’s most remarkable records in going unbeaten in home league games for nine years, including spells at Porto, Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid between 2002 and 2011, Mourinho is 4/1 to not lose a league game at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming campaign.
Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer said: “Big things are inevitably expected from Mourinho and he looks the most likely manager to hit the ground running, with main title rivals Manchester United and City employing men with no title-winning experience in the Premier League.
“Punters certainly seem convinced that he will do the business and, quite remarkably, we’ve seen over 10 times as much money on the Blues than City in our Premier League 2013/14 outright book.”
