Chelsea in hunt for Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz
Point to prove: Burak Yilmaz is wanted by Chelsea
Chelsea are poised to launch a raid on Galatasaray for Turkey striker Burak Yilmaz.
The 27-year-old could cost in excess of £20million as he penned a four-year deal when arriving from Trabzonspor last summer.
But the Europa Cup winners may see that as good value for a player who netted 24 league goals as Galatasaray clinched the Turkish title and who comes highly recommended by team-mate and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
‘I’m really happy here,’ Yilmaz said this month. ‘I have a long-term contract here. If an offer is put on the table then it’s the club’s decision which will matter, not mine.’
Chelsea are preparing to announce the return for Jose Mourinho as manager early in June following his exit from Real Madrid and it is understood the Portuguese is keen on Yilmaz’s arrival at Stamford Bridge where he will provide competition for Demba Ba and Fernando Torres.
Yilmaz played for Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor before joining Galatasaray, for whom he fired Champions League goals this season.
Another Chelsea target is Atletico Madrid goal machine Radamel Falcao, who is also attracting attention from Monaco and Manchester City.
Falcao yesterday claimed he has not given any thought to a potential move at the end of the season but said he may end up leaving the Spanish capital if Atletico decide it is the right time to sell.
