Chelsea and Manchester City eye Edinson Cavani transfer as Napoli sign Mario Gomez as replacement
True blue: Napoli’s Edinson Cavani has been linked with Chelsea and Manchester City
Napoli striker Edinson Cavani could soon be heading to the Premier League as the Italian club have hinted at a future without the £60million striker by signing Mario Gomez from Bayern Munich.
Former Liverpool and Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez has wasted little time since being appointed as manager of the Serie A club in finding a replacement for the Uruguay international, who has a £52m release clause in his contract.
Gomez is surplus to the requirements of new Bayern boss Pep Guardiola as Borussia Dortmund sensation Robert Lewandowski is widely believed to be on the verge of joining the Champions League winners.
Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea are all interested in Cavani and if he moves to either of the Premier League clubs are to enter the bidding they may use forwards currently on their books as makeweights in any deal.
Benitez could take Fernando Torres under his wing for a third time as part of a blockbuster transfer or it is possible he could ask for Edin Dzeko or possibly Carlos Tevez if City piece together a more tempting package.
