Bushenyi Open Court Day: Chief Justice Blames Denied Justice on Corruption
The Chief justice of Uganda Bart Katureebe has revealed that corruption is the leading factor that denies people to access justice in courts of laws.
He made these remarks yesterday during Bushenyi open court session held at district headquarters under the theme “address issues of judiciary access justice and build public trust in judiciary” where he appealed to judiciary to be accessible so that to bring faith and trust to the services.
Katureebe called for cooperation to fight corruption sharing information, stand firm to witness as the way to exclude corruption scandals in the system.
Katureebe noted that short fall in judiciary system has destroyed confidence of people to staffs in judiciary and that’s the reason why only 5% access formal judicial service. He urged lawyers to do work professionally to help the people not come in court seek for adjournment as way getting money from justice seekers.
However the Francis Mwijukye, the Buhweju Member of Parliament hailed judiciary upon their work but asked them to practice professionalism regardless their status or richness saying most times poor people are denied justice.
