A recent survey has shown British fans spend the most time discussing sports
British fans are the most sports mad
British people are the most sports mad in Europe, according to a recent survey commissioned for Eurosport.com.
The findings, sent in a press release to GiveMeSport, show that British people talk about sport more than any of their European counterparts. 72% of British people talk about sport each week, according to the survey, compared to natives of Russia, Germany and France discussing sport 45% of the time.
With the advancement of modern technology, sport fans can now access and consume sport in many different ways meaning they can now get their sporting ‘fix’ easier and more regularly.
The survey discovered that 6.6 hours is spent watching sport each week and 16% admitted to missing a day of work due to a sporting event.
In addition, a further 2.8 hours is spent reading about sport in newspapers and the same time spent reading about sport on mobile apps.
Half of the participants in the survey saw a live sporting event as an opportunity to spend time with friends and family and 24% like to communicate with others, who are not there, during the live event suggesting that they consider sport to be social.
Whilst the event is happening, 28% like to access additional commentary, analysis and statistics during an event. After the event, 41% of people admitted to their moods for the following days being dictated by the result of the live event highlighted how important they consider sport to be in their lives.
Despite modern technology and the ease at which you can now access information, 29% of people are still willing to pay for more content online showing that the financial barrier isn’t an issue to them.
The survey was undertaken across four key markets, UK, Germany, France and Russia, and got responses from 4,474 people between the ages of 18 – 64.
