‘Boo 2! A Madea Halloween’ Tops Box Office, ‘Geostorm’ and ‘The Snowman’ Flop
Tyler Perry’s “Boo 2! A Madea Halloween” debuted atop the North American box office on a lackluster weekend. The follow-up to last year’s horror comedy “Boo! A Madea Halloween” directed by and starring the 48-year-old actor/comedian/filmmaker collected an estimated $21.7 million.
The movie didn’t quite reach the $28.5 million opening garnered by its predecessor, but it was well received by moviegoers, earning an A- CinemaScore. The movie, which was made for a reported $25 million, drew a mostly older and female audience.
David Spitz, who heads up domestic distribution for Lionsgate, says, “Given that it’s a sequel, its performance is at the higher end of our expectations.” The studio expects the film to hold well into next weekend because of Halloween.
Also debuting this weekend were “Geostorm”, “Only the Brave” and “The Snowman”. Costing $120 million to make, the disaster epic starring Gerard Butler only managed to open with $13.3 million in the second place.
