Bodies of UPDF Soldiers Killed in Somalia Arrive Tomorrow
The bodies of 12 UPDF soldiers killed in a deadly Al-Shabaab ambush on Sunday in Somalia will be brought back home on Wednesday.
The Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Adolf Mwesigye told Parliament on Tuesday remains of the fallen heroes will land at Entebbe International Airport tomorrow at 13:30 local time.
“Honorable members the remains our gallant sons who died on duty in Somalia are to arrive home tomorrow at 1:30pm,” Mwesigye said.
The minister maintained the figure at 12 and said all the bodies were retrieved from the scene and taken to Mogadishu Level II Hospital.
“Heavy casualties were inflicted on the enemy but it’s sad we also lost 12 soldiers. Their bodies were immediately removed and taken Mogadishu to await a return home and be accorded decent burials,” he added.
The UPDF on Monday morning confirmed that 12 of their soldiers were killed in the attack that took place in the Lower Shabelle region.
