Besigye Adds to the Voices Opposed to Hiring Doctors from Cuba
Former Forum for Democratic Change president and presidential flag bearer Dr.Kiiza Besigye backs the Uganda Medical Association in opposing the move by government to recruit specialist and consultant doctors from Cuba.
While appearing before the parliamentary committee on health, The Minister of Public Service Wilson Muruuli Mukasa together with the state minister for health in charge of general duties Sarah Achieng Opendi revealed that government was in advanced stages of recruiting specialist and consultant doctors from Cuba who are to be paid up sh5m way above their local counterparts.
Besigye says Uganda has very good doctors, but the biggest challenge is attracting and retaining them hence government must enhance salaries and improve their working conditions for better service delivery.
