Bamugemereire orders arrest of Charles Bafaki, a resettlement officer in the OPM for telling lies
A Principal Resettlement officer in the Office of the Prime Minister, Charles Bafaki has been arrested for deliberately telling lies to the Land Probe Commission sitting in Wandegeya-Kampala.
The directive to arrest Bafaki was made by the Commission’ s Chairperson Justice Catherine Bamugemereire, who ordered him to make another statement in connection to the establishment of Kyaaka 1 refugee settlement camp in Tooro.
Justice Bamugemereire said Bafaki committed a lot of purgery in his testimony in respect to the refugee camp, adding that he created a scheme to steal the former Tooro Prime Minister Stephen Irumba’s land.
Bafaki allegedly evicted Irumba from his Farm land measuring about 500 acres, accusing him of occupying refugee land.Bafaki failed to bring relevant documents in respect to th creation of Kyaaka 1 refugee camp which allegedly houses Tanzanian refugees.
Bafaki told the Commission that he does not have any document showing demarcations of Kyaapa 1 refugee settlement boundaries, its map and legal notice for its establishment.
He explained that the land housing Kyaaka refugee settlement was never surveyed, but the commission accuses Bafaki of altering the original document in regard to Kyaaka refugee settlement to reflect 48 square miles yet it originally measured 8 square miles
This is the second time Bafaki is appearing before the commission in respect of refugee settlement land.
He first appeared before the commission last year in regard to Kyangwali refugee settlement camp, where his is accused of evicting over 2000 people in Bukinda Kyangwali sub-county Hoima district.
