Army court orders CMI to conclude jailed senior police officers investigations
The General Court Martial has ordered the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) to expedite investigations in a case against 7 Senior Police Officers, who are facing charges of being in unlawful possession of ammunitions.
This follows Prosecution’s Maj. Rapheal Mugisha to inform Court Chair Lt.Andrew Gutti that he didnot summon any witnesses, because CMI is still carrying out cross – boarder investigations against the accused persons, and it needs more time to conclude these inquiries.
Lt.Gutti reminded Prosecution that the said officers have been on remand at Makindye Military Barracks and Luzira prison for 9 months now since their arrest in Septmeber last year.
He then adjourned the case and sent the suspects back to prison until 5th/June/ 2018.
The officers include the former commandant of the Special investigations unit Nixon Agasirwe, and are also charged with the kidnap of 3 Rwandese Nationals whom they allegedly conveyed to their country without their consent.
CMI alleges that on 24th /October 2017 at Najeera within Kiira division in Wakiso district , the 7 police officers together with 2 civillians were found in unlawful possession of 4 grenades which are ordinarily a monopoly of the UPDF.
Its further alleged that the 7 police officers Kidnapped Joel Mutabazi and Jackson Kallemera on the 25th/October 2013 at Kamengo in Mpigi District and allegedly conveyed them to Rwanda against their will.
