Ankole Prince evicts 3000 people in Kyankwanzi
A 78 year old Former Chairman of Kiboga District Land Board, Iga Ferdinand has been grilled before the Land Probe Commission for illegally leasing 777 hectares of land at Kyankwazi to Ankole Prince Andrew Tendo, which resulted into massive eviction of over 3000 residents.
Iga and his Land Board extended Prince Tendo’s five year lease on Singo block 812 plot 25 that had expired, to 44 years without any due diligence. The land under contention covers three villages of Mbogobbiri, Kasambya and Bugondi in Butemba Subcounty- Kyankwanzi District.
Appearing before the Commission Chaired by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire, Iga, a Retired Civil Servant said it was an oversight to extend Prince Tendo ‘s lease after it had expired in 1997. The implicated Prince, is expected to appear before the same Commission today and defend himself.
