Age Limit Main petition Hearing Resumes today at Mbale High Court
Hearing of the age-limit petition challenging the lifting of the presidential age -limit cap from 75 resumes today with the petitioners continuing with their arguments on why the law should be nullified.
Yesterday evening the lead petitioner; The Uganda Law society invited the 5 Constitutional court Justices to declare the age-limit law, as bad law because certain sections including the enlargement of the tenure of office of the current Mps and LC5 councillors were smuggled in.
Law society lawyer Wandera Ogalo told court that unless there is a conflict or State of emergency , there is no justification for Mps to extend their tenure of office from 2016-2021.
Court heard that unless the said section is removed from the Constitution, the will of the people to elect their representatives will not be reflected between the years 2021-2023.
The age – limit case is being heard from Mbale High court by five Justices, the Deputy Cheif Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, Remmy Kasule , Kenneth Kakuru, Elizabeth Musoke and Cheborion Barishaki.
