Age Limit Bill Read for the First Time In Parliament
- The Constitution Amendment Bill 2017 was today tabled and read for the first time by Igara West Member of Parliament, Raphael Magyezi. The contentious bill which saw a lot of chaos within Parliament last week will among others seek to amend Article 102 (b) of the constitution aimed at lifting the lower and upper presidential age limit cap.
- The bill seconded by several members of the House was sent to the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee chaired by the West Budama Independent MP, Jacob Oboth for perusal.
- After several consultations with a number of stakeholders, the committee will then issue a report which shall be discussed by the Parliament during the second reading of the Bill. However, the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga ordered members to ensure that the general public is consulted on the bill since they have a stake.
