316 cases of torture recorded between the month of January to September
A total of 316 cases of torture have been recorded between the month of January to September 2018 by the African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (ACTV).
The Monitoring and Evaluation Manager (ACTV) Sulaiman Mpagi reveals that according to their findings, men are the most tortured at 234 whereas only 82 females were tortured.
In their 2017 annual report released this year, Police and the Uganda People’s Defense Forces were ranked first and second respectively in perpetrating torture.
The major forms of torture are beatings, burns, positional and sexual torture and asphyxiation.
Mpagi disclosed this during a media breakfast meeting at ACTV offices in Kampala on Monday.
Efforts to get a comment from internal affairs ministers and government spokesperson have proved futile.
